Cold, dreary winter weather also means dry, red skin. Dry skin occurs because skin doesn’t maintain the proper moisture. Skin loses moisture in the wind, being around a heater and even just because of low humidity in the air.  There’s literally no escaping it. Luckily, there are ways to combat this abominable winter affair.

One of our favorite ways to combat dry skin is by using coconut oil. Coconut oil is a natural way to keep your skin hydrated. Research shows that using coconut oil on your skin daily can soften skin and help relieve dryness and flaking. Coconut oil has also been said to reduce wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots; however more research is still needed for those uses. Coconut oil can also be used to remove make up, as a hair conditioner, lip moisturizer and on dry, cracked feet.

If you’re still not satisfied after using coconut oil to relieve dry skin, try these tactics:

  • Avoid wet gloves and socks
  • Use a humidifier
  • Drink more water
  • Limit hot showers
